Desi Shakkar Wala Kaddu Halwa Recipe

Desi Shakkar Wala Kaddu Halwa Recipe

Kaddu Halwa is a simple homemade dessert made with pumpkin, milk, Desi Ghee and traditional Desi Shakkar.

Using Grans Desi Shakkar gives the halwa a deeper sugarcane sweetness, while Grans Cow Desi Ghee adds the familiar richness associated with traditional Pakistani desserts.

Ingredients

How to Make Kaddu Halwa

1. Sauté the Pumpkin

Heat the Desi Ghee in a pan over medium-low heat.

Add the grated pumpkin and sauté for about 4–5 minutes, stirring regularly.

2. Add the Milk

Pour in the milk and mix well.

Cook on low to medium heat until the pumpkin becomes soft and most of the milk has reduced.

Stir occasionally so the mixture does not stick to the pan.

3. Add Desi Shakkar

Add the Desi Shakkar and cardamom powder.

Stir well and continue cooking until the Shakkar dissolves and the halwa begins to thicken.

4. Finish the Halwa

Cook for another few minutes until the mixture comes together and starts leaving the sides of the pan.

Turn off the heat.

5. Serve

Serve warm and garnish with chopped almonds or pistachios if you like.

Tips for Better Kaddu Halwa

  • Grate the pumpkin evenly so it cooks at the same rate.
  • Cook the pumpkin properly before adding Shakkar.
  • Add Desi Shakkar gradually if you prefer a lighter sweetness.
  • Keep the heat moderate after adding Shakkar to avoid sticking.
  • Add a little more Ghee at the end if you prefer a richer halwa.

Why Use Desi Shakkar in Kaddu Halwa?

Desi Shakkar works particularly well in traditional desserts because it adds more than sweetness.

Its deeper sugarcane and caramel-like flavour complements pumpkin, cardamom and Desi Ghee naturally.
