Sattu Shakkar Drink Recipe: A Traditional Summer Drink
Share
Sattu Shakkar is a simple traditional drink made with roasted barley Sattu, Desi Shakkar, lemon and black salt.
It is quick to prepare, refreshing in warm weather, and brings together two familiar ingredients: Northese Barley Sattu and Grans Desi Shakkar.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Northese Barley Sattu
- 1–2 tablespoons Grans Desi Shakkar, according to taste
- ¼ teaspoon black salt
- Juice of ½ lemon
- 1 glass chilled water
- Ice cubes
How to Make Sattu Shakkar Drink
1. Dissolve the Shakkar
Add Desi Shakkar to a glass of water and stir until mostly dissolved.
2. Add the Sattu
Add Northese Barley Sattu and mix thoroughly.
For a smoother drink, add the Sattu gradually while stirring so it does not form lumps.
3. Add Lemon and Black Salt
Add the lemon juice and black salt.
Stir again until everything is well combined.
4. Add Ice and Serve
Add ice cubes and serve immediately.
Taste before serving and adjust the Shakkar, lemon or black salt according to your preference.
Tips for a Better Sattu Drink
- Start with less Shakkar and add more only if needed.
- Mix Sattu gradually to avoid lumps.
- Use chilled water for a more refreshing drink.
- Adjust lemon and black salt according to taste.
- Stir again before drinking because Sattu can settle at the bottom.
Sweet or Savoury?
This version has both sweetness from Desi Shakkar and a slight savoury note from black salt.
If you prefer it sweeter, reduce the black salt.
If you prefer a more savoury Sattu drink, reduce or skip the Shakkar and add more lemon, cumin or mint instead.
