How to make Kashmiri Pink Tea?
Kashmiri Pink Tea, known locally as "Noon Chai" or "Sheer Chai," is more than just a beverage; it’s a cultural icon that embodies the rich heritage and traditions of the Kashmir Valley. Its striking pink hue and creamy texture not only captivate the eyes but also delight the palate.
However, not everyone can master the art of making this exquisite tea. Many struggle with the process and end up with a bland or colorless version. Crafting authentic Kashmiri Pink Tea is a labor of love that demands precision and patience. Here’s a step-by-step guide to preparing this delightful drink:
Ingredients
- - 2 cups of water
- - 2 tablespoons of Grans Kashmiri Pink Tea leaves
- - 1 cup of milk (you can adjust for creaminess)
- - 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda (optional, for color enhancement)
- - Salt to taste
- - Grans Desi Shakkar to taste (optional)
- - Crushed pistachios or almonds for garnish (optional)
Method
- Boil Water: In a heavy-bottomed pot, bring 2 cups of water to a rolling boil.
- Add Tea Leaves: Add the Grans Kahsmiri Pink Tea leaves and baking soda to the boiling water. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. The tea will start to turn a deep red color and half of the tea will be left.
- Whisking: Using a ladle or a traditional wooden whisk (furkah), vigorously whisk the tea. This aeration is key to achieving the signature pink color. Whisk for about 10 minutes, or till the froth turns red-toned.
- Salt and Milk: Add a pinch of salt and slowly incorporate 1 cup of milk.
- Color Transformation: Whisk until the tea turns a beautiful pastel pink. If it remains dark, add a little more milk and continue whisking.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste the tea and adjust salt or Grans desi shakkar according to your preference.
- Serve: Pour the tea into cups and garnish with crushed pistachios or almonds for a delightful finish.
Tips
- Serving Temperature: Kashmiri Pink Tea is best enjoyed hot.
- Cultural Touch: Traditionally, it's served in small bowls, which adds to the experience.
Enjoy your authentic Kashmiri Pink Tea, a drink rich in flavor and culture!
